Rodi Dashcam (“Rodi”, “the app”, “we”)
is a personal dashcam app. This policy explains what the app does and
does not do with your data. The short version: your videos and
your precise location stay on your device. The only thing we collect is
anonymous usage analytics to improve the app.
What stays on your device
Videos. Everything Rodi records or imports is saved to
your own Photos library (in a “Rodi” album). Rodi never
uploads, copies, or transmits your videos anywhere.
Location. While recording, Rodi uses your location to
show your speed and current address on the video and to map your trip's
route. This location data is used only on your device — it is never sent
to us or any third party.
Camera & microphone. Used only to record video and
audio, which are saved locally as described above.
License plates. Plate recognition runs entirely on your
device. The recognized text is drawn onto your video and stored with it
locally. We never receive or store plate text.
What we collect
Anonymous usage analytics. Rodi sends anonymous,
aggregated product-interaction events (for example: a screen was viewed,
a recording started, an export finished) to our analytics provider
(PostHog) so we can understand which features are used and fix problems.
These events are not linked to your identity and are
not used to track you across apps or websites.
They contain no directly identifying data: no names, no
email, no file paths, no precise (GPS) location, no license-plate text,
and no video content. Where an event references a specific video, the
identifier is a one-way hash, not the file path.
Like most analytics services, our provider assigns an
anonymous device identifier to group events, and may
infer an approximate, city-level location from the
network IP address that carries each event. Both are used only for
analytics, are not linked to your identity, and are not used to track
you. This coarse location is not your device’s GPS
location, which never leaves the device.
We do not collect your contacts, we do not show ads, we do not sell or
share your data, and Rodi has no user accounts or sign-in.
Third parties
PostHog processes the anonymous analytics described above
on our behalf. No other third party receives data from Rodi.
Your choices
Because the app stores your videos and location only on your device, you
control them through the iOS Photos app and your device's privacy settings
(Settings → Privacy & Security), where you can revoke camera,
microphone, photos, or location access at any time.
Children
Rodi is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly
collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be
reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
