In the ring’s argot, a querencia is made during the fight: after a few passes the bull settles on a spot, and each retreat there refills its nerve — which also makes it dangerous. Hemingway gave the English world its best-known account in Death in the Afternoon (quoted below), and the OED took the word in as a borrowing.
The extension grows straight from there: everyone keeps a querencia — that chair, that window table, that run you know by heart. Stand on it and the strength comes back. Its division of labor with hygge is clean: hygge is an atmosphere you can furnish; querencia is ground you can only come to hold.
