词源etymology
anecdote(轶事)× synecdoche(提喻——以局部代整体的修辞格)。
anecdote × synecdoche (the figure of speech in which a part stands for the whole). The blend does its own work: everyone offers an anecdote and lets it stand in for the whole conversation.

The original Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows post ran on 13 February 2013. The definition itself (quoted below) is a small essay: dinner-table crosstalk rendered as a game of Scrabble, everyone laying down their own tiles, nobody reading the board.
Dinner parties, family group chats, timelines — the word has only found more work since. No dictionary has taken it.
各说各话 (“each speaks their own speech”) hits the target, but it is a criticism; anecdoche mounts the same specimen for viewing, with one extra layer of melancholy: everyone is merely waiting for their turn to talk. 鸡同鸭讲 is failing to understand; anecdoche is understanding fine and not listening anyway.
A conversation in which everyone is talking but nobody is listening, simply overlaying disconnected words like a game of Scrabble, with each player borrowing bits of other anecdotes as a way to increase their own score, until we all run out of things to say. (中译) John Koenig John Koenig · The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows · 2013
The reunion dinner slid into anecdoche by the second bottle — six stories running in parallel, none of them landing. 自拟例句 our own example, not a quotation We weren't arguing, exactly; it was anecdoche — each of us just waiting for the other's mouth to stop moving. 自拟例句 our own example, not a quotation Group chats breed anecdoche; nobody replies, everybody posts. 自拟例句 our own example, not a quotation 不在词典中,而且发音都得现教(uh-NEK-duh-kee)。
Not in any dictionary — you’ll even have to teach the pronunciation (uh-NEK-duh-kee). Informal and creative writing only; in formal prose, just say “talking past each other.”
