愿记忆倒流——人生如划船,背对去向、面朝来路;avenoir 是想掉个头,看一眼正驶来的日子。 The desire that memory could flow backward — to turn around in the boat, just once, and face what's coming.

词源etymology

取法语 avenir(未来),改了个尾巴——把「未来」铸成一件器物的名字, 听着像 miroir(镜子)一族:一面照向未来的镜子。 柯尼希 2014 年为它拍了同名短片,词与影像同一天出生。

From French avenir (the future), recast with a new tail — “the future” forged into the name of an object, sounding like the miroir family: a mirror that faces forward. Koenig made a short film of the same name in 2014; word and film share a birthday.

背景the story

《晦涩悲伤词典》里最完整的一次论证。柯尼希的意象是划船: 我们在时间里行进的姿势,天生就是背对目的地的——桨手看得见走过的水路, 看不见船头前面的河。avenoir 不求改写,只求换个坐姿。

克尔凯郭尔早说过那半句:人生只能倒着理解,却必须朝前活。 avenoir 更贪心——不满足于倒着理解,干脆想倒着

One of the most fully argued entries in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Koenig’s image is rowing: our posture in time is backwards by construction — the rower sees every stretch of water already covered, none of the river past the bow. Avenoir asks for no rewrite, only a different seat.

Kierkegaard said the first half long ago: life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards. Avenoir is greedier — not content to understand in reverse, it wants to watch in reverse.

中文里的邻居neighbors in chinese

「早知今日,何必当初」是悔恨版——它想改判;avenoir 不想改,只想看见。 真正的近亲藏在汉语自己的方向感里:未来叫「来日」「来年」—— 字面就是「正在来的日子」。汉语早就默认未来是朝我们驶来的东西, 只是从没说破:我们坐反了。

早知今日,何必当初 (“had I known today, why act as I did then”) is the regret edition — it wants the verdict changed; avenoir wants only to see. The real kin hides in Chinese’s own sense of direction: the future is 来日, 来年 — literally “the days that are coming.” Chinese always assumed the future is a thing sailing toward us; it just never said the quiet part: we are seated facing the wrong way.

怎么用 how to use it

当代造词(2014,未入词典),写作里注明出处。 适合岁末、相册、回忆录的开头——凡是「往回看」成为主动作的地方; 划船那个意象可以整段借走,注一句柯尼希即可。

A contemporary coinage (2014, in no dictionary) — credit it in print. Suited to year-ends, photo albums, the opening page of a memoir — anywhere looking back is the main verb; the rowing image can be borrowed whole, with one line of credit to Koenig.
